Religion and the Sacraments
The Second grade students attend Mass with our school community every Friday with a seventh grade church partner. The Mass and preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist are so important for us this year. There is a parent meeting in the Fall and a First Communion Workshop for parents and their child in the Spring to help us work together during this prayerful experience. First Reconciliation is usually planned for an evening in January. Our First Communion Day is scheduled for after Easter, usually the end of April or early May. The children sit with their parents on this awesome day and stand with them when they receive Our Lord Jesus. We use the Religion series Blest Are We, by Silver, Burdett and Ginn, and special books for the sacraments. The children are required to know the basic prayers, the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be, and as the year progresses we learn special prayers for Mass and the sacraments.
