Rules and Procedures

  • Classroom Rules are based on respect for others.  With that in mind, this acrostic poem was discussed as a class and hangs in our classroom.

    R emember your manners.

    E veryone is accountable.

    S elf-discipline and

P ositive attitude keep you going.

E xpect a lot out of yourself and others.

C lean up the work space and be a

    T eamplayer.

  • Consequenses

If a student chooses to break a rule:

FIRST TIME:        Name on the board. Warning.

SECOND TIME:  Two checks. Second warning.

THIRD TIME:       Three checks.  Demerit issued.

An accumulation of three demerits means the student will serve a one-half hour detention after school. The students may not work off demerits. Also, demerits may be given without several previous warnings if the behavior warrants such discipline.

  • Homework Policy
  • Homework is assigned daily and is expected to be turned in the next day.  A homework notice for late work needs to be signed by a parent and returned to the teacher the next day.

I encourage parents to instill a policy of at least 20 minutes of daily reading when all homework is complete. The reading can be a novel, magazine, newspaper, recipe, manual or web sites. Encourage your child to find an interest and read about it.

  • Rewards System

There are two types of rewards: tickets and sand dollars.

Students are given tickets as a reward for certain behaviors.

1. They receive a ticket each day for filling out their assignment notebook correctly and getting a parent signature.

2. At times the art and music classes reward the students with a ticket for respectful behavior and cooperation.

Then periodically as a class we have ticket drawings for prizes.  Students really look forward to that time as they have worked hard to collect tickets. To ensure success, I ask parents to donate small prizes for these drawings.  I also have classroom privileges that I include for prizes.

Students also receive sand dollars, which may be used to buy items from the "Sand Dollar Store" which is run by the school's student council.

  • Midmorning Snack

Fourth grade has a later lunch and it helps students to focus and learn if they have a healthy snack. No cookies or chip type of snack please. (Pretzels are ok, though.)   A drink is optional, as students will be allowed to go to the water fountain for a drink.

  • Birthday Treats are welcomed but optional. Please let me know if you will be dropping off a treat.

  • White Friday Envelopes

Each family will receive a white envelope on Friday with various information from the school office and Home and School Association.  Please sign the envelope and return the by the following Monday.
