Boylan Jazz Band Entertains Our Students
Making a city tour of Catholic elementary schools, the Boylan Catholic High School jazz band stopped at Holy Family to share their talents with our students. In addition to playing, each band member described and demonstrated their instrument. Some band members shared with the assembly why they made their choice of music and instrument..

Home and School Association Purchases Smartboards for Classrooms
After their recent installation, teachers received training on Smartboard use. Smartboards are student/teacher interactive projection and touch screens that allow teachers to create presentations as well as access internet resources. Many publishers, with their latest editions of textbooks, offer online resources such as practice tests, concept demonstrations, and links to supporting materials. Smartboard software allows teachers to create materials for class use. The day after the Smartboards were installed teachers were already putting them to use.

Illinois law affecting 5th grade physicals changed effective the 2008-09 school year. The required 5th grade physical exam has been moved to 6th grade. To accommodate the transition year 5th graders for 08-09 do not need a physical; those students will be required to have a physical for the 09-10 school year.
For the 2010-11 school year:
- a student entering 5th grade will need a sports physical if playing sports;
- all 6th grade students will need a standard school physical;
- a student entering 6th grade will not need a sports physical if playing sports because their 6th grade school physical counts;
- comprehensive eye exams for children entering kindergarten or enrolling for the first time in public, private, or parochial elementary schools in Illinois;
- dental exams are required for students entering kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grades.
NEW ILLINOIS STATE LAW REQUIRES COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS FOR CHILDREN STARTING SCHOOL
The new law, effective January 1, 2008, requires comprehensive eye exams for children entering kindergarten or enrolling for the first time in public, private, or parochial elementary schools in Illinois. Children will be required to have the eye exam performed only by qualified eye doctors--such as optometrists and ophthalmologists. The law calls for the eye exam to take place within one year prior to kindergarteners starting school in the fall and for all students who are entering school for the first time in Illinois. Proof of the eye exam must be submitted by October 15 of each school year.
The financial aid application for the 09-10 school year is available in a downloadable file. Click on FORMS & DOCUMENTS. Application deadline is May 15.
