2007 Summer Preschool Remodeling

Bathrooms, with fixtures appropriate for 3 and 4 year olds, are being added to what used to be the first grade classrooms.  The renovations are in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education standards for 3 and 4 year old preschools.

By July 6th the 3 bathrooms started taking shape.

By July 11th the three bathrooms are roughed in.

By July 19 the cinder block walls were painted with primer.  Once some drywall patching and ceiling work is complete the final coats of paint will be applied.

July 31: the preschool classroom ceilings and soffits and painting are almost complete; the bathroom floors will be tiled Saturday, thus allowing for the stools to be installed; bathroom sinks are already in place; the floors will be cleaned and waxed on Friday & Saturday in preparation for the delivery of furniture and supplies on Monday, August 6.

Thursday, August 2:  finishing touches on the classroom woodwork

The fenced preschool playground will be located on the north end of the school's north wing.  Its location will be just outside the preschool classrooms.   Weather cooperating, playground installation should begin the week of July 30.  August 1: ground preparation begins and the cement sidewalk (trike driveways) will be first to be installed.  August 13 is the fence installation date.

Thursday, August 2:  Preschool playground ground preparation began.  The concrete sidewalk will be installed Saturday.  The equipment should be in place by Wednesday next week, weather permitting.

Saturday, August 4:  Our "preschool supervisor" watches as workmen lay cement for the "roadway" sidewalk.  The sidewalk will contain the rubber chip safety surface that will be underneath the playground equipment.

After the sidewalk and "little people" table and bench area was completed, he watched as the workmen started installing the playground equipment.

Holy Family's first class three year old takes a look Sunday morning (August 5) after Mass.  Asked how it is looking, he gave a big smile with a thumbs up.

Two "little people" picnic tables and one "normal size" adult bench will be placed on the small cement patio area.

The fourth grade classrooms will occupy the lower level St. Francis Room and the storage room.  Both rooms were roughed in to be classrooms when the addition was built onto the school in 1996.

By July 19 the lower level 4th grade classroom doors were remodeled to meet current building code for schools.  Wiring has already been run to connect the classroom computers to the school's server.

By July 19 the St. Francis Room carpeting was removed.  Both lower level 4th grade classroom floors will be tiled to match the flooring in existing classrooms.

The cabinetry has been installed in the lower level 4th grade classrooms.  The soffits and ceilings have been finished off.  Floor tile will be laid on Wednesday, August 1.

Thursday, August 2:  4th grade classroom floor tiling begins.

By the third week of August the classrooms were ready for the "little people."

A wet week slowed progress on the completion of the preschool playground.  However, it was worth the wait!

Preschool class in session.

On September 28, 2007 Msgr. Bales, Pastor, blessed the preschool classrooms and the playground.  Here he amuses all with a story from when he was three years old...or maybe four years old...or maybe....
